Unique Volunteer Perspective Inspires Matching Gift - Second Harvest Northland

David and Judith have generously supported our work for more than 20 years. Since retiring, David volunteers by sorting, repacking, and delivering food, while Judith volunteers at a local food shelf we support. Their unique perspective has inspired a transformational $50,000 matching gift, which they hope will encourage fellow volunteers to contribute to our Nourish the Northland Capital Campaign.

“We both grew up in families where we didn’t have to worry about our next meal,” Judith shares. “It gives us comfort to see how appreciative families are when they can choose fresh foods like eggs and milk provided by Second Harvest.” David shares he’s already seeing the benefits of our new facility. “The merger required a larger distribution center to support the 15-county region. The new volunteer center now allows multiple groups to work on different projects at the same time, which means more food gets out the door even faster.” David and Judith are especially excited about the market (grocery-style food shelf) currently under construction, which will provide even more choice and dignity for local families.

We hope their generosity inspires you to consider your own transformational gift. In addition to David and Judith’s volunteer match, all individual gifts are being matched up to $500,000 by Royal and Karen Alworth, and all corporate gifts are being matched up to $500,000 by Super One Foods and the Miner family.
