Fresh Produce For Growing Kids

Sarah pulls into our food shelf in a full-sized forest green van, each seat occupied by a smiling child. She looks forward to the array of fresh produce available when she picks up groceries for herself, her daughter, and her nine grandchildren.

“Second Harvest has been wonderful with providing nutritious and fresh food,” Sarah shares. “We go home and eat the fruits and veggies right away. It is such a blessing and helps so much.”

Sarah and her grandchildren love the variety of fresh produce we provide, they enjoy fresh salads, ripe tomatoes, and crunchy cucumbers.

“We always incorporate veggies into our cooking and meals,” she shares. “A lot of times we even camouflage it, like putting squash in pancakes.”

Fresh produce is a necessary part of our diet, children and adults alike. With your support we’re able to provide fresh and healthy produce for all neighbors in NE Minnesota and NW Wisconsin. By donating today, you can ensure fresh produce to families like Sarah’s throughout the Northland.

Spreading Health, One Garden at a Time

There are few foods tastier, or more nutritious, than fresh produce. As a seasoned gardener, Terry agrees. This summer, he has planted more than enough vegetables in his garden to share. Tomatoes, radishes, squash, thyme, corn, beets… the list goes on. Terry plans to keep only what he can eat, then donate the rest to us so others can enjoy a summer salad straight out of the garden.

“Each year, I usually can my garden vegetables, but this year I have a lot of extra,” shares Terry. “So, I just planted a bunch of produce in the garden to give me something to do. I just want someone else to reap the benefits.”

Fresh produce is one of the most desired foods by neighbors experiencing hunger in our region. Donors like Terry make it possible for us to provide nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables adding to the good health of neighbors in our region.
