The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) is a federally recognized, sovereign Indian tribe located southwest of Minneapolis/St. Paul. They are committed to charitable giving, community partnerships, and building a strong, healthy environment and economy.
SMSC values being a good neighbor, a good steward of the earth, and a good employer. During the government shutdown in fall of 2025, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community generously donated $100,000 to us, ensuring much needed support to those impacted.
“Our tribe is guided by our Dakota heritage and cultural values, which lead us to share our resources to help build strong, healthy communities,” shared the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community Business Council. “This is especially important when people are facing hardships and disruptions to benefits. We are glad to be longtime supporters of Second Harvest Northland and their work to serve families in need.”
